Re: Bodine Street Community Garden, 939-941 South Third Street

Dear Councilman DiCicco,

Having recently learned that the land occupied by the Bodine Street Community Garden has been put up for sale, I am writing to ask you for any support that you might lend in helping the gardeners to preserve the space. This is not a newly established garden — it has been in existence for twenty-three years. In 1980, neighbors began to transform it from a vacant trash-filled lot into a space filled with flowers and vegetables. The garden has a long history and it is now a treasured green space for the immediate neighborhood.

I know that you have a commitment to preserving green space in a community. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have for finding a way to preserve this space. As pressures for development increase, it is crucial to acknowledge the important role that community gardens occupy, especially one like this that has been in existence for so long.

Sincerely
Carla Puppin
Director
